Chapter 7 of Richard Foster’s Freedom of Simplicity begins with a brilliant quote from G K Chesterton:

There are two ways to get enough: one is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Desiring less is radical. Counter-cultural. Biblical. Which is why it’s the way of freedom. Liberation. Effectiveness.

Jesus said, ‘What good is it to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit your very self?’ (Luke 9:29). That’s why less is more. But most of us won’t get that unless we deliberately slow down. Stop. Think. Pray. Consider. And then do something.

Ben, my 19 year old son has blogged this week on this very theme, entitled Infinity is Restrictive (click here to read). It’s interesting that the young sometimes see with clarity whilst we older ones are lost in the fog of materialistictic media propaganda. It’s hard for us. We need to pray for eyes to see, that on most occasions less is more.
