I’m enjoying reading Neil Cole’s Journeys to Significance. This morning a stark but simple sentence stood out for me:
There are two kinds of people in the world – those who live the adventure, and those who read about others’ adventures.
Am I going to be someone who only reads about the adventures of others, or who really lives the adventure of discipleship? How about you?
Very timely message for me Matthew. I have also just finished an inspiring read called “Outrageous Courage” – What God Can Do with Raw Obedience & Radical Faith by Kris Vallotton. Its the story of Tracy Evans but it’s really about God, His love for people, His goodness and His incredible work in and through one yielded vessel. Tracy writes “The key to answering His invitation is letting go of everything you look to for security and simply trusting Jesus instead. ” Risk is God’s Love language”
LIVE IT, of course! we all want to see miracles. The problem is that we often have to NEED a miracle or put ourselves in circumstances where God has to come through miraculously. That’s not comfortable. That requires faith. Loren Cunningham always says…I want to lean on Jesus so hard that if He moves I will fall down… 🙂
Thanks for this Matthew (and hello!). You may be interested to know of some research done a few years ago in the USA on actual ‘lives of significance’. Some researchers interview 100 people in their 30s and 40s who had been living some sort of ‘bigger life’ (i.e., focused on making a difference in the world) and had been doing so with relative effectiveness for a sustained period. I’ve blogged about it on one of our project websites, where you’ll also find details of the book. It’s not a specifically Christian book but the writers do have an interest in faith development: http://throughlifediscipleship.weebly.com/1/post/2013/01/lives-of-commitment-in-a-complex-world.html
